Preventive Public Health Dental Program

Provides preventative oral health services within the community setting with a primary focus on the prevention of early childhood caries (ECC) (tooth decay) in children less than six years of age. Children at higher risk of ECC are eligible to participate in a free fluoride varnish program where fluoride varnish is applied to the child's teeth over a series of visits. Parents and/or caregivers participate in individual and/or group education to support behavior changes. Oral screening and education are also available to pregnant mothers. Oral health education is offered to groups within the community including but not limited to interdisciplinary healthcare providers and/or students both on and off reserve. Fluoride varnish training is available to healthcare providers who work with vulnerable children. The dental program also loans out dental resource kits to preschoolers and elementary schools.more info
