Maternity Services

Provides maternity care and support for pregnant women and their families who live the in the Northern region of British Columbia. Units may have labouring rooms, an operating room for emergency, urgent and elective caesarean sections, and postpartum/antepartum beds. An obstetrician and anesthetist are on call 24 hours a day. Paediatrician support is provided for high-risk situations. Not all sites are equipped to deliver all services noted. Please consult with attending midwife, family physician, or obstetrician for more information.more info

Mother and Infant Care

Public health nurse provides postnatal visits following the discharge of a newborn. In addition to physical assessments of mom and infant, offers education and counselling on breastfeeding, baby care, and assesses emotional status (postpartum phase) of mom with family function, and adaptation to the newborn. If further services are required the client is referred to a family support program.more info
