Overdose Prevention Services
What is OPS?
A low barrier health service to address the opioid crisis and reduce harms associated with intravenous substance use. Staff are on site to create a safe, supervised space for people to inject substances.
Who works there?
Peers, registered nurses, life skills workers, social workers, clinicians.
Some benefits of OPS:
- preventing overdose related deaths
- providing harm reduction services, such as sterile supplies and Naloxone training
- creating connections to health and community services (withdrawal management, treatment planning, health assessment and more)
