Better at Home, Houston, BC

Better at Home provides simple, non-medical services to support seniors to age in place in their community. Services include:

  • Light housekeeping
  • Hot meal delivery twice weekly
  • Grocery shopping

These services have fee’s ($28 hour housekeeping and $12 for two meals delivered) Most people pay a fraction of this or nothing depending on their income thanks to the program subsidy.

Other services that are free include:

  • Vouchers for the Legion shuttle for in town transportation
  • Bus tickets if needed (Houston to Smithers)
  • Seniors Gathering. Weekly Tuesdays 10 to 12 at the Plaza. Bowling, activities, games, bingo, snacks tea and coffee
  • Seniors dinner. Monthly at the seniors centre

We also have a Community Connector for Houston that can help seniors navigate and access resources and services.

An intake is required for services (except for Gathering and dinner). We do not have set ages for Better at Home. We are allowed to use our discretion and circumstances. For example, our youngest BAH client is early fifties but has 2 lifelong conditions so we support with housekeeping and food.  Anyone under 50 would be a stretch for us. Anyone interested can contact us at 250 845 2727 or at manager@houstonlinktolearning.ca
